My review of the MyVision rom for the G2/DZ

This is in no way my rom or my picture. They were both created by xda member bsbokc

There are only a few roms out there that people really love. Roms that people really appreciate having. ROMS that people stick with for months, even years. You might have heard of a couple like, virtuous sense 2.0.0., or any cyanogen mod ROMS. Well one that I thought was interesting (that people seem to love) was the mytouch port called myvision. It is mainly just a port but from a unique phone nonetheless.

This rom was made from Motorola for the mytouch 4g. This is mainly what most major companies like to do. They put their own skin over android. HTC is the company that made “sense”, There are also others like Samsung’s “Touchwiz”. Motorola didn’t add that much. They just changed the icons a bit and added a few apps.
OK so here is what I think of the ROM:

APPS:

This is one of the many things that make this rom so special. The rom comes with all of the up to date T-mobile apps which after rooting you probably wouldn’t have heard about.
HANDS FREE:
And although that’s pretty nice I am in love with the hands free mode. I think that it is very interesting and unique. What it does is it reads you the text messages, calls or even reads the notifications that come through.
When you get a message with hands free mode turned on it will say you have a message from (someones name) and will ask if you want to hear it. It will then turn on the voice feature and wait for you to respond. If you say yes it will read you the message. Then give you the option for responding.
When you get a call it will tell you who it is and allow you to say accept or decline.
This feature seems to be very useful if you are driving and have to text or call someone and don’t want to disobey the law.
 MY MODES:

My modes is a very interesting app that you will love if you go to work or have kids that love to play on your phone.
It allows you  to set limits of what your phone is allowed to do. For example when in the children’s mode you are not allowed to get to any of your personal things like your contacts or emails. Thids is great for when you have your siblings or kids playing on your phone and don’t want them to destroy anything. There is also a work mode that allows you to take away any distractions that you don’t want to be tempting you. You also get to set everything up on your home screens differently for each mode.

BATTERY

This is something that always concerns me when I choose a rom. I never know how it is going to be. I also don’t like reviewing about it as it can really vary from person to person. But it is important so…
I think that this has very average battery life. I can usually get about 9-15 hours out of it. Which is really fine. I can manage with that but it is usually nice to never have to worry about plugging in your phone whenever you have the chance.
This really should never hold you back. You have to try it for yourself and see how it goes for you. I like to overclock when unlocked and undervolt when locked with the virtuous app. But it may last longer for you if you set it to a lower voltage than I have it.

OVERALL

This rom is loaded with features. You can put your phone in different modes, control your phone without your hands and don’t think that is going to slow you down as this rom is fast and can easily last a day. If you want a rom that you will love using for years to come, you will love it!

If you liked my review be sure to download the rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186458
Then if you loved the rom like everyone else be sure to donate to this amazing developer.
I hope you enjoyed reading my review!

Virtuous Quattro RC 1 Review for the t-mobile G2/DesireZ!!!!!

Above is a video that I have made of this rom in action! I love to have the latest ROM! I check XDA just about every single day. And today they have released the LEGEND of roms today! The reason why is because they have finally found a way to get the camera working for Ice Cream Sandwich! I knew that they would get it done very soon as we have an amazing team of developers working on our phone. Just one thing to keep in mind is that the rom is still in some sort of beta. So as you are about to find out, not everything is working. Here is a link to the thread if you didnt come from there so you can download the ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428866. So, without anything else holding me back, here is my review of the Virtuous Quattro RC1 ROM!

POPULAR PROBLEMS:

Ok Even though the camera does work you have to know that it wont always work. I have an example in the video above where when you sometimes open the camera app it will go to a black screen. The way that I have found to fix that is by taking a picture the way that it is. After you do that it will work normal.
Taking video and taking a panorama shot does not work either. It will force close if you try to use it.
There will be some sort of graphical glitches as you run the rom. There is no doubt about that. You will see what I mean in the video. The application icons will disappear and or look wrong. after  you restart your phone or launcher it will work fine. I recommend restarting though because when it does start having those problems it will look like that through some apps (like youtube for example) and just killing them wont work.
Other than that everything has been working fine for me and most others. Some people have reported that the sound doesn't work for calling. I tested this and I could hear on both sides. Also some people have said that the music had trouble syncing but again, that worked fine for me. I have music on my sd card and in my google account and everything has worked just fine!

SPEED!!!!

BROWSER:

I don't know what it is about the browser but it has a really nice speed of caching or something. For an example when I go to any page it will ZOOM when I scroll up and down the page. I think that this is a ICS feature. Not a Quattro feature.

CPU OVERCLOCKING:

I believe that the kernel allows you to overclock the cpu to around 1900 mhz. I did this for a few minutes and it was SUPER fast! Still some lag from here and there but still I was amazed.

OVERALL:

Now the speed I have to say isn't the greatest, as there is a bit of a lag from now and then. But if you love to browse, multi-task, and dont mind a little problem here and there then I say GO FOR IT!!!

FEATURES!!!

SETTINGS:

The greatest part about this ROM and one of the many reasons you should pick this ROM over the other ICS ROMs available is because of the settings. I know that it sounds silly. But it is one of the major things that is different than the other ICS options out there.
What you can do in the settings are great. You can do all sorts of things from setting the battery % to be in the notification bar, turn the crt animation on/off, make it so you can just scroll into the widgets instead of having to press the tab "widgets", and many many more.

BROWSER

I think that the browser is the coolest part of the ICS experience. The fact that you can sync all of your bookmarks and many other things through the browser between your phone and your computer makes it so cool and just easy. Its just another thing that makes your life simple. I think that this is just another thing that makes google so amazing as well. The fact that they have made everything to be in one place with google plus, picasa, google music and so on. They have put it all in ICS making it one of the greatest things ever made. (a little off topic sorta, But its late)

CONCLUSION!!!

So, If you haven't tried out this rom yet, I would suggest to do so as it is the best experience with ICS that you will get on this phone at least for the present. Yes there are a few problems with it but if you dot mind having to reboot your phone at least 3 times a day to fix the graphical problems, not being able to record a video or take a panorama shot, then you could use this as a daily driver.
It isn't that much that you would have to put up with if you want the best of the best. I just can't myself for the reason that I need the video recorder because I have an amazing family that I just cant miss certain moments.
I say that if you can, GO for it! The rom has obviously had a lot of work put in to it. And it is thee greatest team around, so be sure to check back to xda for their updates. I am sure that they would also really appreciate a little donation for all of their hard work!

I hope you enjoyed my review! Thanks for reading!

HOW TO INSTALL EXT 4 RECOVERY ON AN ANDROID PHONE!

Here is a video of how to install ext 4 recovery.

I hope you find this helpful!
This is for a rooted android device only!

The first thing that you need to do is go to http://4ext.net/  and download the 4 ext application. Or if you want the paid version, that is available in the android market.
If you downloaded it from online make sure to move the file over to your sd card, unless of coarse you downloaded it from your phone. Next you have to make sure that you have unknown sources checked on. To do this go to settings-> applications then check the unknown sources box. You don’t have to worry about the message that pops up, just click ok. What it is trying to say is just be careful what you install. I assure you that this application is completely fine to install.

Ok next I hope you have a file explorer installed. You can use any type of file explorer they all do the same thing. OK so you have to open the file explorer and go to wherever you put the folder. I downloaded it from my phone so it is in the download folder. Click on the file and click install then open it. You will have to accept their “disclaimer” and click ok to a message. Next click online install |upgrade and allow the app super user permissions. Then allow it to connect to their site to get upgrades and data. Then read and click ok to the next 5 messages that pop up.

Now you will have to click online install | upgrade again. It will try to detect which type of phone you have. In my case it is the g2 so it says “Detected: HTC Desire Z /G2 is that correct? Don’t proceed otherwise!” . The message will be whatever phone you have. You can then choose what type of 4ext recovery you want with the tabs on the top of the screen. You can choose between the touch or the classic. The classic is more likely to work.  Just something to keep in mind as the touch recovery is still in beta. Although It works rather well without any type of problem.  I like the touch recovery so I pick the touch tab and it will give you a warning if you click it saying that it is in beta. Just choose whichever one you want. The upcoming method is the same. I recommend clicking the latest version.  When you click it, it will talk about the features included in the recovery. You can also see the known issues if you would like. Next you have to click install. Don’t click download as that is for a different method. It will then download and install the recovery for you. Click ok on the following message. And everything Is all set up! You are ready to flash some roms!!!

Now you will see that there is a power menu. Click on that. This may not work for your device. If it doesn’t you will have to read the next paragraph. Ok now you will have the option of rebooting into recovery, bootloader, reboot, hot reboot and power off. You will want to click recovery, it should be there automatically. Then click “Do it!”. It will reboot into recovery and you should see your new recovery!
This next part is only for the g2 phone. If you have a different phone you will have to google how to reboot into recovery for your phone.

If that didn’t work you will have to reboot into recovery manually by first turning off your phone. Then holding volume down and power. Hold it until you reach a white screen with skateboarding androids at the bottom. Once you reach that screen press volume down so that the word recovery is highlighted and press power.  Then you will be booted into your new recovery! Congratulations!

Dimensions & Weight119mm(L)x 60.4mm(W)x 14.16mm(T), 180g with battery pack

How sturdy it is:

BODY:

It is not (like most phones are) made out of plastic. It seems to be very strong! It has lasted me since september 2010 (around when it first came out) without any type of problem.. Some people have been worried about the way that the keyboard opens. The reason being is that it opens in a sort of z shape. I personally think that they have made it very well, and that it has made it very unique looking ( people come up to me because of how it looks when I open the keyboard). I have dropped it and opened the keyboard very hard and it hasnt had any type of scratch or had come off of its hinges. I am not suggesting in any way that it is impossible to rip it off its hinges. I am just saying that throughout the time that I have had it with some sort of rough use I didnt have any worry.

SCREEN:

The screen like most of the phones out nowadays is made out of "Gorilla Glass". I really wish that I knew this before I got a cover..... It is really strong and hasnt taken any major scratches. For this type of glass (if you look it up) people have done drop tests to test how strong it is( it doesnt matter what phone they review because they are just showing how well the glass is made).
You can basically drop it on the cement, stab it with a knife nothing can really break it.

KEYBOARD:

The keyboard is the only thing that is made out of plastic. And is the only thing that I have managed to break in any type of way. I only cracked the letter A button. I have strong thumbs. lol.  One strong thumb. Anyway, the keyboard is not too bad. It is the weakest part of the phone but will still last you.

Features:

SOFTWARE:

The phone comes with android version 2.3.4. gingerbread.

SCREEN:

The screen is of coarse multi-touch, measures 3.7 inches and has a pixel resolution of 480 x 800.  The screen is very nice for people who want a nice sized phone without it being obnoxiously huge. The resolution is really perfect. You wont really be able to tell much of a difference between this and 1080p.  The reason being is that for something as small as a phone there isnt much space for pixels. My TV for example, is 720p and 32 inches. It takes a 42 inch television for you to tell the difference.

KEYBOARD:

The thing that I really bought this phone for was the keyboard. I had the G1 as a previous phone and didnt really want to give up my keyboard. This is a good thing if you previously had a keyboard and want to slowly switch to the touch screen.
The keyboard offers some really nice features like an @ button and a www./.com button, many different symbols, an alt button, enter key, delete button, shift button, numbers (if you hit the alt key), I cant forget letters, and three custom buttons.
The three customization buttons lets you set up apps to go directly to if you push them. I have them set as gmail, mail, and text message. This is really useful so you can pop open your keyboard and just write!!!

CAMERA:

The camera has 720p resolution for videos, and 5 megapixels for pictures. It has been proven worthy of eBay as well as family videos!
The camera does come with something that I can no longer live without, a FLASH! The flash has been great to have. It can lighten up your whole night! ;>)

PORTS, BUTTONS, LED LIGHT AND TRACKBALL/GLOW:

The phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top left, power on/off button on the top right, a camera shutter button on the lower right side, absolutely nothing on the bottom, and a mini usb port on the lower left.
On the front of the phone there are four soft key buttons and a trackball on the bottom portion and a led light and speaker grill on the upper portion.

The four soft keys are from left to right, home, menu, back, and search.

The trackball is for clicking as well as a mouse, which is useful for those tough to reach links. It
also glows a white color for notifications.

The led light is for notifications and for an alert that you have low battery.

And last there is the speaker grill which is used for during calls.

  ROMS:

Ok this is only if you have a rooted g2. But, as far as I have seen, this is one of the greatest phones for custom roms!  The teams that work on this phone are amazing! The reason being that you can choose any type of android, and they have made it! They have stock AOSP, all versions of sense, and miui! This has to be the number one reason that I love this phone.

Ok I guess that is all that I can tell you. I hope you had a good read and decide to make a good decision to buy this phone! Have a great day!!!

Energy™RCMix 4.0 Energized BLUE Edition rom by NRGZ28 review

I did NOT create this ROM! This was created by xda member NRGZ28. I am only writing about my experience with his ROM!

Hello I just wanted to kind of post in here about my favorite sense ROM period. It is a sense 3.5 ROM. The Great thing that I have found is how fast and stable it is for my g2. Most of the sense roms that have been made for this device has been VERY buggy, had ram issues and can some times make my phone go into a boot loop while I am in the middle of working on it.

The things that I look for in a sense ROM is for it to be able to work and for it to be able to unlock without taking 30 seconds for the ring to pop up. And for it to be fast! I didn't root my phone for it to be beaten out in performance by a stock g2 (whether it does or doesn't have a sense ROM is irrelevant)!

"Energy tweaks"

I like that they have the tweaks that are included. They allow you to change the visual things like being able to change between the sense 3.0 and the sense 3.5 rosies, as well as the help with keeping everything running well with keeping 75 or 50 mbs free in in your system memory. Which I highly recommend doing. Within these tweaks you can also do things such as clear dalvik cache, clear cache, fix permissions, change your kernel and many other things!  Being able to do these things from within the settings makes your rooting experience that much better! The reason being you would normally have to manually reboot into your recovery to do this and just saves time and your "energy".

Battery life, Quadrant standard score and my experience with the ROM

Ok so as with every rom the battery life can differ from person to person. The reason being people use their phones for different things for different amounts of time. My battery life can change very often. For this ROM I normally get between 11-15 hours of minimal to heavy use. Today however I didnt really use my phone that often exept for the occasional calls and texts and quite a bit of web browsing. Anyway I am currently at 57 percent after 10 hours and 39 minutes. That is quite impressive to me! It hasnt been very often that the sense roms will have even an exceptional amount of battery life.
I got 2600 on quadrant standard with it set to 1600 mhz.
My overall experience with the rom has been amazing! I have been able to run high performance games without any type of problem. I have been able to install about 20 apps and games without any change in performance. I did slim the rom down a bit and installed supercharger. Here is a link to what I did in a little bit more detail. http://htcg2romtesting.blogspot.com/. One last thing that I would like to mention is that I noticed is that the rotation animation is really fast in this rom. I know that it is kind of a silly thing to mention but I thought I would add it in there.

Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you enjoyed it and hopefully helped your decision on whether or not to flash this rom!

How to get your sense 3.0/3.5 rom fast and smooth and stable!

So this is the start of my blog. I hope you all like it. I will hopefully create some videos as well.

Everything I am posting on here is for a rooted g2 with the desire z hboot.

If you have a sense rom, you must experience the whole interface of sense. Once you do you will realize that they have made it to relate to every one. Which means that there is a lot of crap that you personally wont like. Because to relate to everyone there has to be many apps and widgets and wallpapers etc. that will relate to some but not to others. And if you have a g2/ desire z which I hope you do because this is what I am directing this to although this is good for other devices as well, you will know that you wont have much ram/ system space. Because these devices werent made to have sense 3.0 and 3.5 on it.

You have to look at your phone as being separated into a system and data partition.Basically everything that comes with your phone goes into the system partition. And when you download apps and set up your home screen preferences/how your phone gets set up that gets saved into the data partition. The g2/desire z has about 550 mbs in the system partition and about 1gb for the data partition. With a sense rom you will normally have about 80 mbs free in the system partition and about 850mbs free in the data partition. Now the reason they do this is so people can download as mant apps as they want. and they pretty much filled the system partition in sense for the roms on the devices that didnt come with it.

Ok now that you see how much sense takes in your system, and have played around with sense 3.0/3.5 and you can see some things that you dont use DELETE THEM!!! Use root explorer to do so. For an example I love the weather app but I dont really see a use for the videos lodged into your system. ( the videos that I am talking about are the videos that play when you open the weather app) I know that they are eye candy and know why that they are there to make it look cool but when you see that they are 30 mbs that you can delete.

Also there are many different apps that most developers put into the system that you can delete and download from the market.  For an example The youtube app. If you delete that from the system/app file and then download it from the market, you get to have the app while putting it into the data partition. Which has a lot of space. And there are many apps that they usually put into the rom that are like this, like es file explorer, adobe reader and adobe flash, facebook and a couple others. The live wallpapers are a good thing to delete as well because they can make your sense experience unusable. And some of them (weather live wallpaper) take up 10mbs in system.

So once you do all of this you can have an amazing sense experience! I can most of the time end up with 180 mbs free in my system! That is 100mbs less than what I started with! The things that I listed were things that everyone no matter what preference you have can do! once you do that along with delete the things you dont use personally your phone will run very smooth. you will notice that your ram will be up to 120 mbs out of 368 free. at the most.

But once you open up your applications and start running things you will notice ram will get filled up
(obviously). So if you really want to keep the ram free you can run the supercharger script. Supercharger is a sort of memory manager that really makes a huge difference!!! I dont know exactly how it works but it keeps killing all of the things that you have running. you will have to set it up and read his guide on how to do it. Here is a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18703418&postcount=5021 I like to set it to the most aggressive setting. That will make a huge difference and is all you have to do in order to get things perfect for your g2 with sense 3.5!
